Igbo pan socio-cultural organization, Ohaneze Ndigbo has said that the mosques destroyed in Enugu State was carried out by hoodlums and miscreants who infiltrated the #EndSARS protests.

The group lamented that the protests and subsequent hijack by hoodlums across the country led to the destruction of public and private properties including worship centres. It stressed that even in the North churches were burnt.

Chuks Ibegbulem, national publicity secretary of the organization in a chat with DAILY INDEPENDENT on Wednesday regretted that hoodlums hijacked the protests, and unleashed havoc on Nigerians, destroying public and private properties worth billions of naira.

Ohaneze however said that if governors across the country were going to take the responsibility of rebuilding destroyed mosques they should do that holistically, including churches destroyed in the North by hoodlums.

“If the governors are going to rebuild the mosques in Enugu State, the churches destroyed in the North by the hoodlums should also be rebuilt by the governors over there. It will be good if a holistic action is taken concerning the destruction that took place across the country. The burning of Enugu mosques were carried out by hoodlums and miscreants. It is unfortunate that the peaceful protests were hijacked by hoodlums.” Ibegbulem said.

The national publicity secretary also spoke on the Obigbo killings. According to him what was happening in the community could be likened to genocide.

While calling on Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State to halt the genocide going on in Obigbo community, the Ohaneze leader said that protests took place in different parts of the country and he wondered why that of Obigbo would be different, to the point that members of the community were being killed in their numbers.
