Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola on Saturday declared another 24-hour curfew after massive looting and disturbances by some individuals under the guise of ENDSARS protest.

In a state broadcast, the governor said the unfortunate situation in the State necessitated the return to curfew.

The governor had earlier declared curfew in the state on Wednesday but he called off the curfew on Friday when the situation was calm.

However, the events of Saturday depicted real anachy as hoodlums and other residents were looting warehouses and attacking private and government properties.

Oyetola said he declared the second curfew to forestall the breakdown of law and order and protect the lives and property of citizens and residents.

He said, “It is unfortunate that hoodlums and criminals have taken advantage of government’s action to wantonly loot government and private property, including private business premises and homes in several parts of the state this morning. This is unacceptable and it stands condemned”.

The curfew is indefinite until further notice, the governor said.

“For the avoidance of doubt, there shall be no vehicular (including Okada) or human movement during this period. Only those on essential duties will be permitted to move around. These persons too must carry with them proper identification to allow access,” he said.

The governor warned that violators of the curfew rules would be prosecuted in line with the extant laws of the State.

He urged all citizens and residents to return home and remain in their homes until further notice. (Daily Trust)
