Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano
By RAYMOND OZOJI
Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state has suspended the presentation of the 2021 budget estimates to the state house of assembly due to tensed atmosphere in the state following youth restiveness over police brutality.
Speaker of the 7th legislature Rt.Hon.Uche Okafor who disclosed this to his colleagues, said the governor stepped down the budget presentation to attend to more pressing demands as the chief security officer of the state.
Okafor explained that the governor felt that the best thing to do was to profer possible solutions to the civil unrest brought up by the ENDSARS protesting youths across the state rather than come to the state assembly for the aforestated ceremony.
He however emphasized that the governor sent his sincere apologies to the legislature and the entire state for the turn of events but also assured all and sundry that the governor would make the budget presentation on a later date, when the atmosphere was calm and tranquil enough for such august occasion.
Also in another development, the state assembly confirmed the nominations of some transition committee members of Idemili-North local government area, who were stepped down earlier due to a letter from stakeholders in the area.
The speaker who confirmed their appointments in agreement with other members, said a counter letter from the area refuted the claim by the lawmaker representing Idemili-North that stakeholders from the constituency did not endorse their emergence. (Daily Independent)
