Protesters numbering over 500 on Wednesday afternoon burnt the Kpirikpiri police station in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

The incident was rumoured to have been masterminded by the outlawed members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Movement for Actualisation of Sovereignty State of Biafra (MASSOB).

The ugly development came barely after 24 hours that the Ebonyi State Coordinator of the secessionist group, one Ikechukwu Ikwoha, was reportedly appointed.

However, there were gunshots in Abakaliki capital city, which made residents scamper for safety.

Sources said the gunshots were not clear if masterminded by security agents or the protesters but all major roads in the capital city have been barricaded by the Military Officers who masked themselves.

At the time of filling this report, it was not clear whether the perpetrators were the EndSARS protesters, the IPOB members or hoodlums.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ebonyi State Command, DSP Loveth Odah, noted that it was only a car parked in front of the police station that was burnt which the owner has not been ascertained.

She said: “Apart from a vehicle parked in front of the Kpirikpiri police station that was set ablaze which the owner is yet to be ascertained, no other police facility is touched or shall be touched because they will not see such opportunity.”

However, Ebonyi APC chieftain, Hon. Sunday Omoha, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately address the nation and find a way of resolving the problem.

He also appealed to the protesters to also proritise the peace of the nation and stop further protest in the interest of the nation.
