EndSARS Lekki Toll Gate victim, late Anthony Okechukwu Tonycruz
A veteran journalist, Mr. Justus Nwakanma, has identified a university student as one of those who died during the Lekki Toll Gate shooting of Tuesday, October 20, 2020.
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had claimed in a Wednesday morning broadcast that nobody died in the shooting, which he attributed to soldiers.
However, Nwakanma, a one-time Editor of the now-restedDaily Championnewspaper, has identified Anthony Okechukwu (Tonycruz), a student of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike Abia State, as one of those who died during the shocking attack on unarmed #EndSARS protesters.
Displaying the late Okechukwu’s photo n is Facebook wall on Wednesday, Nwakanma wrote:
“My heart bleeds for this young man Anthony Okechukwu (Tonycruz) a student of Michael Okpara University Of Agriculture, Umudike Abia State, who was gunned down at Lekki Toll Gate. May his soul and that of his colleagues who died in the #EndSARS protest find favour with God.”
The shooting has attracted widespread global condemnation and has failed to quell the protests despite the imposition of a 24-hour curfew on the state by Governor Sanwo-Olu.
