The Police in Ebonyi State have arrested four suspects in connection with the attack on CSP Chinedu Onuoha, Acting Area Commander, Ohaukwu in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects are Alieze Uchenna, Agbo Chinonso, Onwe Okechukwu and Onwe Onyedikachi – all of whom are currently in police net.
The area commander, who went into coma after the incident, was attacked on October 14, 2020, by suspected hoodlums allegedly from Ohaukwu area of the state.
It was gathered that the attack came after a security meeting in Ohaukwu council headquarters.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Loveth Odah, said the police is investigating the matter.
Her words: “You will recall that on October 14, a gang of armed robbers yet unknown, attacked the Area Command Headquarters, Ohaukwu, in the process, the Acting Area Commander, CSP Chinedum Onuoha, and one other sustained several machete cuts on their heads, bodies and two AK-47 rifles were snatched from them.
“On Friday, 16/10/2020, the police operatives in active collaboration with Ngbo Central Security Vigilante, arrested four suspects in connection with the case namely; Alieze Uchenna, Agbo Chinonso, Onwe Okechukwu, Onwe Onyedikachi, and the two stolen AK-47 rifles were recovered from them.
“The arrested suspects admitted to the crime and narrated that they are eight (8) man gang; and further confessed that their leader popularly known as “U.S” other name unknown, a native of Effium in Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi state conveyed an order given by their overall leader a.k.a “Above” other name unknown, who resides within Abakaliki capital city, that they should attack the police and snatch their riffle for him.
“On that fateful day, the gang regrouped, attacked the policemen and snatched the two (2) rifles as requested by their leader. Case still under investigation after which suspects would be charged to court.”
According to Odah, the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State, CP. Phillip Sule Maku, has ordered serious manhunt with a view to arrest the remaining suspects.
She added that CP Maku is soliciting “the continued partnership of the good people of Ebonyi State in the fight against crime and criminality.”
