Wife of Delta State Deputy Governor, Dr. (Mrs) Nelly Tuwere Utuama, has called on women to emulate the lifestyle of the Blessed Virgin Mary, saying that by imbibing and living the various virtues known to have characterised her life while on earth, women would help in fashioning a just, peaceful and equitable society where everyone would be happy and fulfilled.
She stated this on Sunday night during a Eucharistic Mass to mark the celebration of the Catholic Mothering Day at Emmanuel the Saviour Catholic Church, GRA, Asaba.
In her speech titled “Mary: Woman of the Eucharist”, Mrs Utuama explained the significance and spiritual import of the Biblical narrative of the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary in God’s plan of redemption.
She listed 20 core virtues noticeable in the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary which are worthy of emulation to include: “faith, grace, integrity, love, hope, humility, service, prayer, obedience, joy, patience, modesty, truth, meditation, peace, moral rectitude, chastity, maintaining good relationship, fulfillment and being a woman of the Eucharist.
“I want to sincerely ask all our women to go home and score yourselves on each of the above 20 listed virtues. Make five (5) the highest point. That will be a total of 100 percent. If at the ends of the day you are able to score 70 and above, you are doing well. But if you score less, strive to move higher. If we all can sincerely follow this we would create a just, peaceful and equitable society where we can all live in peace”, she said.
She praised the Parish priest, Rev. Fr. Charles Okeke for being an exceptionally humble and understanding priest. “He is always smiling and ever ready to assist women in this parish. He is such a wonderful priest. We are lucky to have him.”
A minute silence was observed in honour of all departed wives and mothers.
Among the dignitaries at the Eucharistic mass include the Delta State Deputy Governor, Prof Amos Agbe Utuama, SAN; President Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Stella Ogene; Commissioner for MDGs, Queen Victoria Ikenchukwu and the wife of the Delta State House of Assembly Speaker, Mrs Uche Onwusanya.
