The Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Dr. Kelechi Igwe, has advocated for a stronger political will to end the intractable crisis between Ebonyi and cross River State in their border areas

The Deputy Governor, who is also the Chairman of Ebonyi Inter-State Boundary Committee, made the call in Abuja at a meeting of National Boundary commission, Ebonyi and cross River states.

He described, as senseless, the killings in the border areas and urged leaders of the affected Local Government Areas and communities to sensitise their citizens on the imperatives of peace.

The Deputy Governor who presented to the Commission relevant documents to buttress their claims stressed that absolute peace will be achieved only when the two states are willing to make sacrifices.

He appealed to the commission to expedite action on the document and make their proposals within one month.

The Deputy Governor of Cross River Prof. Ivara Esu appealed to chairmen of the affected local Governments to take necessary steps to bring lasting peace in the volatile areas.

The Director-General of the Commission, Mr. Adamu Adaji, said the meeting was to enable the two states present to the Commission relevant documents from archives in support of their positions.

He said the documents will be properly scrutinized by the Commission to enable it make proposals to Governors of the two states on the necessary steps to be taken to end the crises.

The meeting was attended by Council chairmen, traditional rulers and community leaders from both states.
