The Ebonyi State Government, National leadership of Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, and leaders of herdsmen leaving in the state have resolved to end crisis across the state.

The crisis which led to loss of lives and destruction of farm crops in the State however throw residents of the state into fear.

The agreement was reached at an enlarged security meeting in Abakaliki with Chief Security officers in the state and local government Chairmen in attendance.

Speaking at the event, Governor David Umahi noted that Ebonyi people love visitors than they love themselves, “this is the only state that you can come in if you were paying tax in other state if you come here you don’t pay tax, it is a state that will prefer to sell land to visitors than to indigence, and so this recent altercation is very much unlike us, and there is no doubt that Ebonyi people are not in support of it”.

At the end of the two days meeting, the state Governor and National Secretary of Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Baba Othman Ngelzarma, warned against inter-state movements of herdsmen, night and under-aged grazing in the state.

The State Government further warned against destruction of farm crops by cattle and killing of cattle by their host community.

“If you a community leader and your people go to kill cow and we agree on what to pay and you refused to pay, if you are a herdsman and you go and destroy farm crop and we say you need to pay and you refused to pay, such thing will not happen in Ebonyi State.

“Myetti Allah must look into the movements of herdsmen from another state into Ebonyi State. Does it mean that Enugu state doesn’t have pasture, Abia State doesn’t have pasture? It’s an act of provocation and we will not allow that. We have to fight those who are coming into the state to destroy the peaceful co-existence between us and the herdsmen who have lived with us in this state for long.

“The National Secretary has said it all; he said you have two choices. These people are not from Nigeria, they are migrating, they are going with sophisticated weapons. You have a choice of stopping them or reporting to security agents to also stop them because when they destroy things, we say is the Fulani people that did it, No! So, let us solve our problems by ourselves, let us show more understanding, let us live in peace.”
