Kidnappers bow to pressure, release Orekoya kids (Ages: 6 years, 4 years and 11 months)

The three missing children of the Orekoya family kidnapped by their nanny, have been found in Lagos State where they were taken hostage.

In an interview with Channels Television, police sources revealed that the kidnappers, faced by immense pressure the incident had generated, abandoned the children in Shasha area of Lagos State, Nigeria’s south-west region.

The police urged the public to contact the police before employing persons that would have access to their homes for adequate profiling.

The children were immediately taken to an anonymous hospital for observation and are in the process of being re-united with their parents.

The kids between the ages of 6, 4 and 11 months old were abducted by the housemaid on April 8, a day into her job as the family maid.

The housemaid, Mary Akinloye, a 23-year-old indigene of Ibadan, Oyo State, was said to have been hired through an online trading portal, OLX.

She, as well as her accomplices, contacted the children’s’ parents and demanded a N15 million ransom.

Reports say the parents of the children had posted a notice on an online sales portal, stating that they needed the services of a nanny.

Ms Akinloye then offered her services, gave them the contact numbers of two individuals, whom she claimed were her relatives.

The Orekoya family then arranged to formalise documentation with the purported relatives.

OLX has described the kidnap of the children as unfortunate, urging its users to help kick out bad players by reporting any dubious activity or user on the site for immediate action.
