Okowa’s victory heartwarming, delightful, says Utuama

Delta State Deputy Governor, Prof Amos Utuama, SAN, has described the victory of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa in the governorship race as heartwarming and delightful.

Prof Utuama, who stated this in Asaba on Monday, explained that the victory was an eloquent testimony to the fact that democracy can only thrive where there is no imposition.

According to him, “the victory of our governorship candidate, Senator (Dr) ifeanyi Okowa is very heartwarming and delightful. It shows that, one, democracy can only thrive where there is no imposition. To emphasis a little more, Okowa was not a product of imposition. And that is why he won the primaries hands down.

“Two, the election just held also demonstrated that Delta State had become one because Dr Okowa’s votes spread all over the 25 local government areas. He won in the North where he comes from; he won in the South and he won in Central.

“Three, the people of Central, which I can say is the centre of the election just concluded have also decided to take their political destiny in their hands and could not be manipulated and could not be cowed by any external body.

“Four, it also demonstrated that the foundation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State is very deep. We must hold this to our leader, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, who laid the foundation in 1998 and became the governor in 1999 till 2007.

“So, no ill wind can uproot the PDP in the state and we hope that just as Governor Uduaghan has been able to sustain PDP in the state, the incoming governor, our dear Dr (Sen) Ifeanyi OKowa, will consolidate the fortunes of PDP in the state through good governance by ensuring that there is even development across Delta State and equal opportunities for all in Delta State.

“That there is a sense of belonging of all to our dear state. So on the whole, one is very happy that the election has been won by us and will urge all those have participated in the election, all the other candidates, to join hands with the incoming governor to move Delta forwards.

“I congratulate Deltans, I congratulate Dr. Okowa and the Campaign Organisation and the Campaign organisation, the Governor and all who in one way or the other has been part of this victory,” he said.
