Remnant of the collapsed building

The collapsed building at Umuota village in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State has been sealed off by the Anambra State Government.
The one-storey building which collapsed on Sunday killed a 40-year old nursing mother whose six months old baby was rescued alive, leaving several others trapped.
Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Anambra State Physical Planning Board (ANSPPB), Barr. Chike Maduekwe, disclosed this during an inspection of the site on Tuesday.
Maduekwe said the uncompleted building had been there for more than 40 years, adding that the collapse affected one section of the facility.
“Our staff have sealed off the building. It is a 40-year old uncompleted building. The partial collapse affected one section of the building.
“We’ve invited the owner and the caretaker to our office in Awka. After our meeting with them, we will pull the remaining section down,” he said.
The ANSPPB Chairman called on people to always obtain building permits before construction saying that it helps the Board to monitor the development.
