Adamawa gov bows to pressure, lifts curfew

Governor of Adamawa State, Bala James Ngilari has lifted the controversial curfew earlier imposed on the state by the security agents.

This decision followed the protest and threat by political parties to defy the curfew.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Gabriel Adaji on Friday at a Press Conference announced that the state would come under curfew with effect from Sunday 12th April, 2015 adding that the curfew would last for three days.

The governor, who announced the lifting of the curfew shortly after he was accredited at the Moddibo Adama University of Technology Yola said he took the decision after reviewing the political situation.

He explained that the government was fully aware of the decision reached by the security agents and politicians to impose curfew on the state on Sunday but due to its unpopularity and protest that greeted it, he had no alternative than to bow to the will of the people.

The decision was reached by the security agents and politicians during a stakeholders meeting where they unanimously agreed that in the interest of the state, there should be a curfew in order to avoid what happened during the presidential elections where some innocent citizens were harassed.
