APGA gets new leadership next month, says Umeh

A new national executive of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is expected to emerge next month.

National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, announced this in Umuahia yesterday at the end of his two-day working visit to Abia State.

Addressing newsmen at the Dr Alex Otti Campaign headquarters on Bank Road, Umeh said election of new executives at all levels, from the ward to the national, would be conducted next month and he would step aside when the national executive is inaugurated.

”I will hand over to a new leadership of APGA in May. We will conduct congresses at all levels to elect new officers of the party,” Umeh said.

Umeh’s leadership of APGA, spanning about a decade, has been the subject of several litigations but he had always emerged from each of them stronger.

Umeh confirmed that he was the only national chairman of a political party in Nigeria who has had to contend with over 50 court cases and won all.

“I am not God; I am not a miracle worker. All the people that have come against me, came with wrong reasons,” he said against the backdrop of his claim that he would unseat Hon Uche Ekwnife who defeated him in the just concluded National Assembly election.

Ekwunife was returned as the winner of the Anambra Central Senatorial election but claimed that he actually won the poll, alleging that his opponent, in conjunction with his party, the PDP, manipulated the process with the aid of security agents.

He boasted that as he had defeated all those who attempted to pull him down as the national chairman of APGA with facts, so would he uproot Ekwunife from the Senate with authentic results of the Anambra Central senatorial poll.
