Unknown gunmen have opened fire on four All Progressives Congress (APC) agents in Kanya, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, reportedly killing one an injuring three.

Residents in the area who spoke to our correspondent said the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. early today.

According to hospital sources, Umar Gwazawa was killed by a bullet that hit him on the chest, while the other three were hit on their thighs and other parts of the body.

Sources say Gwazawa was shot when he attempted to pick a call from his phone. “We suspect the call was coming from the gunmen to identify him before shooting,” one source said.

A doctor at General Hospital, Ribah, told our correspondent that the three injured agents are stable and have been referred to Zuru General Hospital for X-ray.

Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident. He said investigation is on-going.

APC State Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Sani Dododo, said the attack was pre-planned to terrorise voters in the area, which boasts a large population of the electorate.

According to him, “PDP earmarked that area; they brought in thugs from the Niger Delta to cause confusion and terrorise voters in the area because of its large voter population in the state.”

Kebbi PDP Publicity Secretary, Mallam Haruna Saidu, however denied the allegation, saying: “It happens everywhere in Nigeria and under any circumstances. PDP condemned this kind of heinous act against anybody. This is unthinkable and barbaric for anybody to do that.”
