Varsity don asks Buhari to implement Confab report, others

A Professor from the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA), Prof. Iro Uke, has urged the President-elect, Maj.-Gen. Mohammadu Buhari (rtd), to implement the National Conference (CONFAB) report and other programmes that would engender economic development.

Uke, a Professor of Political Science, said the conference had made some worthy recommendations that needed implementation. He noted regrettably, successive governments had always failed to execute full implementation of inherited policies and programmes.

“The incoming administration should religiously follow the implementation of policies; the problem with the system has been full implementation of policy goals.

“Even if the incoming administration did not organise the National Conference, it should study the report very well and see the aspects that will bring about economic development and transformation and implement them.

“They should complete the implementation of all well-meaning programmes initiated by the outgoing administration,” he said.

It would be recalled that the conference submitted more than 600 draft proposals, among which were the creation of 18 states and an additional state in the South-East, bringing the number to six states per zone.
