In addition to the earlier deployment it made during the March 28 presidential election, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed thousands of its personnel for tomorrow’s gubernatorial and State House of Assembly election in 36 state of the federation.
NSCDC Commandant-General Ade Abolurin made this known at the Abuja Headquarters while handing down directives to Deputy Commandants-General (DCGs), Zonal Commanders and State Commandants.
He said that the NSCDC would also deploy nothing less than 500 trained sniffer dogs, 300 operational vehicles, as well as 100 surveillance vehicles and ambulances to further boost the security of the electorate, electoral official as well as sensitive and non-sensitive materials before, during and after the polls.
He warned against compromise or any activity that could label them as engaging in partisan politics.
Abolurin stressed that as a key stakeholder in the country’s electoral process, the Corps is expected to re-double its efforts and work hard to deliver a violence-free election. He reiterated that efforts have been put in place by the government to make the exercise successful, hence its deployment of personnel to every nook and cranny of the country, especially the identified flashpoints.
The NSCDC boss reiterated that the peace and unity of Nigeria cannot be jettisoned under any guise, warning that any personnel found wanting or suspected to be involved in electoral offences would be dealt with according to the rules of engagement as the corps leadership will not tolerate any action that falls short of the highest level of moral and professional conduct.
