The youth wing of Pan Igbo organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has condemned the continued killing of Nigerians in the North by Boko Haram insurgents despite the success of the conduct of the presidential elections.

In a statement made available to journalists in Awka yesterday, deputy president of Ohanaeze youth wing, Comrade Arthur Obiorah, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to step up the plan of action aimed at wiping out the sect. He urged Jonathan not to allow the insurgents regain any of the territories already recovered from the group by the Nigerian military.

Obiorah described as unfortunate, a situation whereby lives and property of Nigerians were being wasted on a daily basis and prayed that the incoming administration would do something urgently to end the activities of the insurgents permanently.

While congratulating the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), on his victory in the March 28, 2015 presidential election, Ohanaeze youths also called on him to endeavour to live up to his campaign promises and to resist the temptation of hunting those that opposed his candidature during the polls.

“The President-elect should see his election as an act of God and should therefore see himself as the father of Nigeria now. He should carry every region and groups along in trying to right the numerous wrongs in the country. We also urge him to consider implementing the outcome of the national conference,” Obiora said.

He hailed the courage of President Jonathan in conceding defeat against all odds in the election, saying that he has not only written his name in gold by that act, but has also written his name in the sands of time.

The organisation charged all ethnic nationalities in Nigeria to shun anything that could threaten the nation but rather join hands with the incoming administration in building a Nigeria that would soon regain its pride in the comity of nations.
