Armed bandits have abducted some travelers along Jibia-Gurbi road in Katsina State and moved them to an unknown location.
An account that Daily Trust could not independently verify has it that on their way into the forest, the driver, who attempted to escape, was shot by the bandits and abandoned to die.
The source added that the injured driver was discovered by some villagers two days after.
The escaped driver then disclosed that about 20 people were abducted by the bandits.
He is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
When contacted, the Katsina Police spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the incident, saying however, the number of people abducted was nine.
He said two of the abducted persons have been rescued.
“Theie vehicle was faulty, that was why they stopped and the kidnappers pounced on them at a place close to a military checkpoint.
“Even before our men got there, the military men were there already,” SP Isah said.
He added that investigation into the matter was ongoing.
Meanwhile, two women and a child abducted over a month ago have finally regained their freedom from bandits who alleged collected the sum of N300,000 as ransom.
A close source to the released victims confirmed to Daily Trust the husbands of the abductees paid the said amount to the kidnappers before their family members were released.
Recall that Daily Trust reported that two women were abducted, one of them recently delivered of a baby, but the merciless kidnappers took them away and did not even allow the nursing mother to take a piece of clothing with which to wrap her baby.
Daily Trust gathered that the freed victims are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Jibia town with the nursing mother’s condition being worse. (Daily Trust)
