A socio-political group, Coalition of Patriots (CP), has urged the President-elect, retired Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. to justify his electoral victory by initiating people-oriented development projects.
This is contained in a statement issued by the group’s coordinator, Mr Ifesanmi Ajiwoye, on Monday in Akure.
The group said the electorate voted for Buhari based on his campaign promises.
“The incoming administration of Buhari should know that the era when politicians took the electorate for granted had gone,” CP said.
The group also described the victory as an answer to earnest prayers by Nigerians.
“The people of this country prayed to God for a change of government at the centre. God has answered their prayers through the election of retired Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.
“The president-elect, must therefore, justify people’s confidence in him by striving to fulfil his promises to them.
“It is by fulfilling the promises that the change of government will make meaning.
“Fundamental issues affecting the country such as insecurity, corruption, unemployment and poor electric power supply should be given prompt attention.
“The political consciousness of the people is now high and they will no longer vote for those who cannot add value to their lives,” it said.
The group also hailed President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding victory even before the announcement of the winner.
Jonathan’s action had gone a long way to ensure post-election peace being enjoyed in the country, the group added. (NAN)
