Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, TRCN says the results of Teachers’ Professional Qualifying Examinations, PQE written in July 2020 has been released.

The Council also announced that a total number of 28,094 candidates passed the exams which is 75.24 percent of the entire candidates.

Addressing Journalists in Abuja on Thursday, the Registrar of the Council, Prof Josiah Ajiboye made these known and also stated that only 9,246 candidates failed the May examination and that the figure accounts for 24.76 percent of the ‘would be teachers’ who sat for the exams

According to the Registrar, “44,363 candidates registered, 37,340 were examined and due to COVID-19 challenge, 7,023 candidates could not join us for the examinations”

Prof Ajiboye also disclosed that the Council has eventually conducted exams for candidates in Rivers and Kaduna States, the two remaining states where candidates couldn’t write the exams in July.

He also said that the Council is beginning to record more progress in the conduct of the examination adding that the teaching service is becoming more familiar with digital literacy via the use of computer systems.

“Initially the failure rate was high, our observation was that people were so much not used to computer systems, but based on the assessment of our last exam we discovered that even our training on digital literacy that we offered Nigerian teachers has helped enhance their performance in the exam”

Prof Ajiboye hinted that Ghana is second to Nigeria in the conduct of Professional qualifying exams for teachers while adding that the professional exam is universal.

“It is important to mention that Nigerians have come to embrace TRCN’s PQE. Recently we have also allowed some Nigerians in diaspora to write the exams online and we monitored them via Procter”.

The TRCN Registrar disclosed that the council will hold its next batch of PQE in the 1st and 2nd week of November, 2020.

He further revealed that the TRCN will soon introduce mandatory professional training programs to further professionalise the teaching career in Nigeria.

“Now on Colleges of Education in Nigeria, for anyone to lecture at all in the schools the TRCN registration and licence are key requirements to get a placement”

The TRCN Registrar however called for sustainance of the initiatives saying Nigeria will make more progress in professionalising teaching if sustained.
