Tragedy struck at the Kwale axis of the Ughelli-Asaba expressway in Delta State at the weekend when five persons suspected to be members of the same family were burnt to death in a road accident involving their vehicle and another.
An eyewitness told Daily Sun that the vehicles were moving towards Asaba, the state capital, but on separate lanes of the dualised road.
Unfortunately, however, the vehicle on the primary lane had a burst tyre, which scaled it over the road dividers to hit the vehicle conveying the family members. The two vehicles, it was gathered, went up in flames apparently due to the impact of the contact.
The two vehicles involved in the crash were burnt beyond recognition.
The five occupants of the vehicle whose identities were yet to be ascertained were burnt along with their vehicle while the two occupants of the vehicle that had a burst tyre were rushed to the hospital.
According to the witness, the chances of survival of the injured victims were very slim as they had severe burns all over their bodies.
