IPAC flays call for the removal of INEC chiefs in Akwa Ibom

The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Akwa Ibom State has described as ill advised calls by some politicians for the removal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) leadership in the state.

In a press statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary of IPAC, Comrade Lawrence Udo, IPAC condemned such calls, describing it as an obnoxious scheme aimed at disrupting and destabilising the peaceful and orderly political process ongoing in the state and country at large.”

The IPAC statement described the current scheme of some politicians in the state as an act of mischief and gave INEC a pass mark for conducting a credible poll in the state.

The statement reads: “We commend the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, her polling officers, presiding officers and supervisors for the very successful conduct of the polls in Akwa Ibom State, despite the challenges and ensuring a free, fair and level playing field for a credible and acceptable elections in the state.”

IPAC, while commending security agencies, election monitors and observers, as well as non governmental agencies, also applauded the political parties and their agents for the peaceful conduct of the polls in the state.

IPAC praised the large turnout of the registered voters in the state, especially for their responsible conduct through the exercise, urging all to sustain the same attitude as the April 11, 2015 last lap of the general elections approaches.

On President Goodluck Jonathan congratulating his opponent, General Muhammadu Buhari, IPAC commended the act as his mature disposition and spirit of sportsmanship and charged all candidates in the remaining elections to emulate the worthy example of Mr President.

IPAC, however, frowned at any attempt from any quarter to truncate the peace in desperation to win at all cost maintaining that, security and stability was paramount to the state as the elections roll by.
