AfDB President, Dr Akinwumi Adesina
Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, and his Kwara State counterpart, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, have congratulated Dr Akinwumi Adesina, on his re- election as President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
Dr Adesina, whose election was announced by the board of governors of the bank, is billed to resume his new term on September 1.
Dr Fayemi in a congratulatory message in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, hailed Dr Adesina’s re-election, describing it as “well deserved”.
Fayemi, who is the Chairman, Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), said Dr Adesina’s re-election is an attestation to his dynamic and pragmatic leadership which has helped to reposition the bank.
He said: “This is great news for all lovers of development. It is a befitting reward for Dr Adesina’s visionary leadership which has increased the growth and influence of the bank these past few years.
“There is no doubt Dr Adesina’s presidency has strategically repositioned the AfDB with attendant positive impact on the economies of many national and sub national governments in Africa.
“Knowing Dr Adesina’s pedigree as a thoroughbred professional and a man of distinction, I have no doubt in my mind that AfDB will make more significant progress, impact more economies and help build a more prosperous African continent, during this second term.”
AbdulRazaq, on his part, called Adesina’s victory a triumph of brilliance, vision, and forthrightness.
He commended Adesina for standing firm and focused during his recent trials at the bank, saying his eventual clearance affirmed his commitment to transparency and wide acceptance of his rich vision by various power blocs within the bank.
“I join our compatriots to congratulate Dr. Adesina for his uncommon victory and re-election as AfDB President. It is an honour well deserved. That he was elected by 100% of the votes was a total vote of confidence in his leadership which has no doubt been phenomenal in the history of the bank especially as regards its impacts in the lives of millions of Africans,” AbdulRazaq said.
“While his first term tenure indeed brought so much growth to African economies, we believe that Dr Adesina will beat his own sterling record in this second term as he takes the AfDB to a greater height.”
