The National Peace Committee on the 2015 general elections, led by its Chairman, former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd.), has commended the Nigeria Police Force for its professionalism in its conduct at the March 28 presidential and National Assembly elections held nationwide.
Abubakar stated this when the committee paid a courtesy call on the Inspector-General of Police at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
He remarked that the visit had become necessary, owing to the critical role the IGP Suleiman Abba-led Police played in ensuring the overall success of the Abuja Peace Accord. He also admonished Nigerians to collaborate more with the police in tackling crime.
Lending credence to the former Head of State’s remarks was John Cardinal Onaiyekan, a member of the committee, who equally appreciated the role played by the police during the conduct of the last elections.
In his response, IGP Abba thanked the committee for the visit, which he described as highly motivational, and promised to make it a subject of lecture across police formations.
The IGP again re-affirmed the commitment of Nigeria Police Force to be impartial and non partisan.
He equally assured Nigerians that what Nigeria Police Officers have done is not just for the March 28 elections, but it will also replicate the same commitment and professionalism in the April 11 elections and subsequent ones in Nigeria.
