Against all expectations, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Theophilus Soyombo, on Monday, stayed away from the Senate Building, the administrative office in the institution.

Recall that Prof. Soyombo was last Thursday, via a notice signed by Mr. Azeez Oladejo, the Registrar and Secretary to Governing Council, announced him as the Acting Vice-Chancellor.

Earlier, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the VC was removed from office in a controversial circumstance that had pitched staff unions, alumni association, Committee of Vice-Chancellors and members of the University Senate against the Dr. Wale Babalakin (SAN) led- Governing Council.

However, 5 days after his appointment in Acting capacity, Prof. Soyombo of the Faculty of Social Sciences had remained in his office.

Efforts by Daily Independent for an interview with him in his office in the Faculty of Science failed as Mr Phillips Odutola who identified himself as his Personal Assistant said the Acting VC was busy.

However, Dr. Dele Ashiru, Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU), UNILAG chapter insisted that the alleged reports and submissions of the Governing Council Chairman on which Professor Ogunndipe was removed from office completely failed the due process protocols.
