Retired educationist and administrator with teaching experience in Western Nigeria, Chief James Adeleke Lakisokun, the Apesin of Odeomu, has passed on at 92, his family announced.

An educationist all his life, the late Chief Lakisokun served between January 1942 and December 1983 as teacher, senior tutor, vice principal, up to Class 1 Principal in various schools in the South-West. The schools include Baptist High School, Iwo, Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo, Baptist Grammar School, Ilora, Iwo Grammar School, Ife-Oluwa Grammar School, Osogbo and Gbongan/Odeomu Anglican Grammar School, Gbongan.

Chief Lakisokun, a historian, was a National President, History Teachers’ Association of Nigeria (HISTAN) 1981 – 1987; West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Chief Examiner in History with a total examining experience of 40 years; and Chairman, WAEC International Panel for Syllabus Review 1978 – 1990. He was a lifelong member of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, joining in 1943 and serving in various capacities such as member of Central Executive Committee Ibadan Province 1958-1965 and chairman Oyo State branch.

The late Chief Lakisokun was Chairman, Oyo State Committee on National Consciousness and Enlightenment Crusade, Incorporating War Against Indiscipline (WAI), Member, Board of Directors of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS). He also served on the Governing Council of College of Education, Ila-Orangun and was Chairman, Board of Governors, Federal Government College, Ipetumodu.

Chief Adeleke Lakisokun earned a Bachelor’s degree in Modern History from the University of Wales, Lampeter, United Kingdom, in 1963 in addition to various other certifications in teaching and educational administration.

Children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of other relations survive him.

The family will soon announce burial arrangements, his youngest daughter Ms. Temitope Lakisokun, MD of Insider Lagos communications consultancy, said in a statement.
