The Nigeria National Office of the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has confirmed that its school-based examination, West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will hold from August 3rd to September 5th, 2020.
Recall that the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba had, on Monday, announced August 4 for the commencement of the regional examination.
Head of the Nigeria Office, Mr. Patrick Areghan, disclosed this during a press briefing held at the Yaba office of the regional examination body.
Areghan explained that the examination, earlier scheduled to take place from the 6th of April to 5th of June 2020, now holds from Monday, 3rd August to Sunday, 5th September, 2020 covering a space of five weeks.
Announcing the new development, the WAEC HNO said the examination would now hold all through the week from Monday to Sunday for the period for the 786,421 males and 763,042 females registered from 19,129 schools nationwide.
According to the WAEC boss, the choice of the period (August 3rd to September 5th, 2020) for the conduct of the examination was not arbitrary.
He said, “WAEC consulted extensively with the governments of all the five member-countries before arriving at the period and duration of the examination. (Daily Independent)
