The Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Lady Neidi Mezue, has announced the arrest of a mentally sick man who is in the habit of molesting women around Aroma area in Awka, the state capital.

The notorious demented man is known to roam about the area naked while harassing passersby.

Disclosing this to journalists at her office after the arrest, the Commissioner said that her Ministry was dedicated to removing the demented off the streets of Anambra State.

“A team of social workers had caught the middle aged man before sending him to a Home for mentally retarded at Nteje for rehabilitation and possible connection with his relatives.

“It was a great relief to see that the man, who had been a torn in the flesh of people, especially women at Aroma, removed from the streets.

“I am relieved that we are able to successfully move this young man out of Aroma. I assure as always that he will be rehabilitated and reunited with his family.”

Mezue recalled that on June 29, she and her team rescued a homeless and depressed man at Aroma fly over bridge.

“At first we mistook him for a mentally retarded person but on interrogation, I found out that he is of sound mind, but merely depressed. He roamed about like a mentally retarded person.’

“Currently, he is undergoing counseling and rehabilitation at the Women and Children Affairs Ministry,” she said.
