Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has inaugurated an eleven (11) Member Emergency Response Team at its Corporate Headquarters, Lagos Southwest Nigeria.
The team would be strategic and respond immediately in case of emergencies at the Authority’s Headquarters and the Port locations.
Speaking at the occasion, the Managing Director, NPA, Hadiza Bala Usman, represented by the Executive Director, Marine and Operations, NPA, Hon. Onari Brown appealed that Members should be ready to put themselves at the frontline of emergency response at the Marina Headquarters.
The NPA boss explained that every Head of Departments is a constituent part of “this emergency response team who have specific roles to play during the emergency”.
She, therefore, asked that respective officers must have sense of responsibility to duty and ensure effective collaborations at such delicate periods.
Accordingly, two teams shall be constituted at the Port levels vis- a- vis Port Emergency Management Team (PEMT) and Port Emergency Response Team (PERT) and that details of their membership and modus shall be duly communicated to all the Port locations.
These committee is expected to amongst other things respond proactively during work place emergencies covering fire, explosion incidents, medical emergencies (like Ebola, Lassa fever, Covid-19 etc.), public safety threat, armed robbery and terrorism threat, marine vessel collision in the Port, accidental release of hazardous substances and natural disasters like flood or storm.(VON)
