By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
The Anambra State Government has launched a daily update on coronavirus (COVID-19).
This is coming on the heels of an increase on the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the state.
So far, the deadly virus has spread to 13 out of the 21 local government areas that make up Anambra State with Awka South leading with 23 confirmed cases while Onitsha North trail behind with 11 cases.
Other LGAs with the presence of the deadly virus include Idemili North, 10, Onitsha South, 8, Oyi and Nnewi North 3 each, Anaocha, 2, and Ogbaru, 2.
Idemili South, Njikoka, Ihiala and Orumba North all have one case each.
News Expressreports that the State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, had on Monday shut down Eke Awka Market over the traders’ failure to adhere to COVID-19 protocols.
Announcing the new development in Awka, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala, emphasised the importance of access to latest and accurate information in a pandemic.
He said the move would serve to arm the citizens with sufficient information concerning the spread, containment and treatment of COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
Okpala added: “The daily update involves series of charts indicating the spread of coronavirus across the 21 local government areas in the state and other relevant statistical analysis that will guide ndị Anambra and concerned professionals on best ways to survive the pandemic.
“With this initiative, ndị Anambra can easily access most recent updates on Coronavirus in the State by simply following @DEOAnambra on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram in addition to the charts to be constantly released by the state’s Ministry of Health via different media platforms.”
