A total of seven persons who tested positive for COVID-19 and underwent treatment in the state’s treatment centres, have been discharged after full recovery and satisfying the protocol of the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Mr Freston Akpor, Permanent Secretary, Bayelsa Ministry of Information and Orientation, disclosed this on Monday. He said that the recoveries were reported within the previous four days, ascribing their successful treatment to the dedication of frontline health officials that managed the cases.

He described the drop of active cases in the state as heartwarming and called for concerted efforts by the people to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.

His words: “Five of them were discharged on Sunday and one on Saturday from the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa treatment centre.

“One was also discharged on Friday from the Niger Delta Teaching Hospital (NDUTH) Okolobiri treatment centre.

“There are currently three active cases at the treatment centres and are responding to treatment.

“All the frontline teams at the two treatment centres in the state are being commended for their steadfastness.

“The contact teams and all medical professionals for demonstrating commitment and professionalism in efforts at managing the sick and defeating the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The people of Bayelsa and residents are advised to continue to observe all public health advisories and stay safe.”

News Expressreports that the main isolation centre at NDUTH was recently expanded to over 100 beds through the donation of 100 beds, medical equipment, and protective equipment by the private sector funded Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID) led by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
