The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has commenced the distribution of food materials and sanitisers to the 326 political wards in the state to cushion the effects of the two weeks stay at home directive issued by the State Government.

Also to partake in the distribution is one extra ward created to accommodate physically challenged people.

The items include 5,000 bags of 10kg rice, 6,500 bags of 5kg rice, 200 bags of 50kg rice, 2,140 cartons of noodles and 16,250 bottles of hand sanitisers.

Speaking at the party house in Awka on Friday, the state chairman of APGA – the rulig party in the state – Sir Norbert Obi, said that the party decided to commence distribution of the stimulus package to assist Anambrarians who have been on sit-at-home for close to two weeks.

He said the items were jointly procured by the national body and state chapter of the party to cushion the effect of the stay-at-home directives in all APGA families in the state.

Obi stressed that following the ravaging effect of COVID-19 in the world at large, the National Chairman of the party, Chief Victor Ike Oye, set up an 11-man committee to provide protective medical materials and food items to APGA members and other citizens across the party divide.

According to him, the 11-man committee was charged with ensuring that the relief materials get to the grassroots of the party in all the wards.

He urged party leaders at the local government level who came to collect the materials to ensure that the items are equitably shared.

“I charge the local government party chairmen, ward chairmen and executives and all party members to diligently perform this task of sharing these items equitably in order to achieve the expected goal.”

Breaking down the sharing formula, the secretary of the party, Chief Tony Ifeanya, said each ward will get 34 bags of 5kg and 10kg rice, six cartons of noodles and 1 big bag of beans among other things.

He expressed optimism that the items would be equitably distributed.
