The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kaduna State Command has called on the residents and the public, especially vehicle owners to exercise caution in parking vehicles without being watched.

According to the command, this action has become necessary following a reported incident of a parked car which was ransacked at Ungwan-Maigero by criminals after using chemicals to melt the glasses.

A statement issued by the corps’ public pelation officer (PRO), Orndiir Terzungwe on behalf of the state commandant, Babangida Abdullahi Dutsinma, said, “A victim whose over N350,000 was stolen last Friday (20th March, 2020), explained that unknown to him that criminals were after him, he parked his car outside his gate and went into his house quickly to carry an item, only to return and discover that the glasses were destroyed with chemicals and his money carted away in less than 25 minutes.

“After withdrawing the money from a bank, I went and bought chicken feeds and loaded in the car and rushed home to bring back my children from school, but before getting to their school, I parked outside my gate at about 1150hours – 1200hours when I returned, the car was vandalized by two persons whom I gathered came on plastic motorcycle, the victim narrated.”

The victim he said expressed fears that some officials of the bank might be accomplices, stating that it was his third time of having such an ugly experience after making withdrawals.

Continuing, “The other time, after hours of funds withdrawal, some unknown persons called me claiming to be from the EFCC but I ignored them. But I became apprehensive and worried when I noticed a car pursuing me after another time of withdrawing cash even though I escaped,” the victim narrated.

According to the statement, while the corps intensifies surveillance with the view to arrest and sanction perpetrators of this crime, the command is calling on the public to be wary of these syndicates and assist with useful information that will help in arresting the members.

“In another development, the command through its Disaster Management Unit is calling on residents of the state to strictly adhere to government directives to prevent them from being infected with COVID-19.”

Recall that last week; the state government announced some measures like abstaining from religious activities that will attract over 50 persons and closure of educational institutions for 30 days and adherence to proper hygiene among other measures.

“As a critical stakeholder whose mandate includes disaster management, personnel of the command have commenced sensitization programmes in mitigating effects of the pandemic.

The sensitisation targets motor parks, worship centres, recreational facilities and offices among other places which attract people,” the statement added. (Leadership)
