The Nigerian Army has called on social media influencers to accurately report the activities of the military in the country.

It made the call on Monday at a one-day seminar organised for Sokoto State Social Media Users on Civil-Military Relations.

The seminar with the theme, “The Evolving Role of Social Media in support of Nigerian Army’s Nonkinectic line of Operations”, explored how to improve the awareness on the implications of spreading negative information about the military.

The Nigeria Army Chief of Civil Military Affairs, Major General Usman Shehu Muhammad, said the objective of the Interactive Session was to create a synergy between the media and online bloggers and influencers to report accurate information about the Nigerian Army and its activities.

Maj.-Gen. Shehu Muhammad further appealed to the participants to utilise what they acquired during the Interaction Session and put it into practice.

The Nigerian Army Director Psychological Operations, Brigadier General E. A. Adeniyi, presented a paper on “The Achievements of the Nigerian Army in the Last Two Years”.

According to him, the seminar would update the knowledge of the participants, on “the role of civilians and their contributions in supporting the Armed Forces of Nigeria”.

Special Adviser to the Sokoto State Governor on Special Projects, Alh Dahiru Yusuf Yabo, described the interactive session as timely and welcome development, considering the negative information that is being circulated on the social media platforms which need to be addressed to avoid the circulation of fake and unverified news.

Other resource persons at the seminar were Dr. Nasir Daniya, who presented a paper titled “Use Social Media Properly Or Go To Jail” and Tijjani Muhammad Musa, who presented a paper titled “How to Checkmate and Verify the Authenticity of Any News before Sending to Friends and Social Media Influencers”.
