The member of the House of Representatives in the eighth National Assembly, Dr. Tony Nwoye, has set up a foundation to assist the youths, women and the aged in Anambra State.

Addressing youths from all the 326 political wards in the 21 Local Government Areas of the State at his country home, Nsugbe, Anambra East Local Government Area, Nwoye said that the primary focus of the Foundation is employment for the youths from all parts of the state.

Other areas of interest include assisting people to meet their health care needs, offer scholarship to youths and children of youths, as well as embark on annual empowerment, including giving cash and equipment to enable the less privileged people cater for themselves.

He explained that his emphasis on youth empowerment is as a result of the role they (youths) have played in his political career.

Nwoye regretted that youths were only remembered during elections and dumped afterwards adding that not up to five percent of the youths were gainfully employed, “yet they say youths are future leaders.”

The former governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2017 election in Anambra State observed that President Buhari, Olusegun Obasanjo and others led Nigeria when they were youths.

While wondering when the youths of today will take charge of the system, he asked, “Is it under this situation that our youths can build houses, buy cars and start raising families?

“I am now 45 years old and no longer a youth, but because it is the youths that made me what I am in politics, I decided to start with them in the Tony Nwoye Foundation.

“I led the youths throughout the country and contested elections, two times for governor and two times for House of Representatives, as a youth and went into the national assembly as a youth.

“So, I can never relegate the youths to the background and that is why I am starting the Foundation with them because they are my immediate constituency. After the youths, I will then invite the women and men.”

Nwoye said although the foundation was mainly to assist people, it would have political undertone since, according to him, he would still contest election in future.

The lawmaker informed the youths that he would contest election again after weighing the options, adding, however, that election was not the purpose of setting up the Foundation.

According to him, it is the youths that will decide his political faith in future, even as he urged the youths to stop their lackadaisical attitude on Election Day, leaving only the women to go and vote

“Anambra election is still far, but we hope that God will identify who will put smiles on the faces of Anambra people,” Nwoye stated.
