The 2018 Batch C Stream 1, Financial Inclusion Volunteer Corps Members in Anambra State, headed by Amiwero Toritseju Esq, have rolled out some of their achievements within the short period of their service year, maintaining that the group would have achieved much more if given needed support.

A statement issued on Friday by the Corps, signed by, Amiwero Toritseju Esq, who is the Governor/Coordinator said the Batch has been able to achieve the following, including, featuring live on several radio stations to propagate the doctrine of financial literacy and inclusion. These include a five-time appearance at Authority FM 91.9, Nnewi, once in Wazobia FM, Onitsha and another in Aguata at Omega FM, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, it said, adding that the proofs were forwarded with pictorial evidence to the relevant departments in charge of Financial Inclusion.

“Each Financial Inclusion member has reached out to more than a hundred community members to educate them on Financial Literacy and Inclusion.

“The assemblage of community people of like minds and the subsequent formation of a cooperative society called the Community Farmers (Nnewi) Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited ably headed by Elder Sam Chuks Ilonze and made possible by financial inclusion members.

“Financial Inclusion members invited officials of the Development Finance Office (DFO) of the CBN, Awka, ably headed by Mrs. Okparaeke, Mr. Babatope and another colleague of theirs to D.C.C., St Andrews Anglican Church, near Nnewi Roundabout, Nnewi on the 27th day of August, 2019 to sensitise members of the Community Farmers (Nnewi) Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited and other members of the Nnewi Community on the various credit facilities, the CBN has put in place for members of the Nigerian public.”

Also, the Batch organised a one day rally in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra on the 26th day of September 2019 which was tagged “Campaign against Fraud and Scams, among others.

Toritseju further implored the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Enterprise Development Office of the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development not to allow such volunteer Corps Members to stray looking for jobs after their service year but to gainfully employ them to further propagate the doctrine of financial inclusion and literacy since they have been armed with the relevant skills and field experience.

The National Peer Group Educators Program (NAPGEP) on Financial Inclusion is the child birthed by the policies of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Developments of the Federal Government of Nigeria, being an initiative which has been infused into the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as a Community Development Service Group.

The Financial Inclusion Training Program came into being as a result of the World Bank’s Report on Financial Literacy and Inclusion in Developing Countries which indicated very low patronage of financial products across the globe including developing countries like Nigeria.

The goals amongst other things of the NAPGEP Program are to educate members of the public, members of staff of corporate institutions, partnering with well-meaning organisations to support individuals, small and medium businesses to gain financial literacy/inclusion awareness and to help gather data on the level of awareness of Business and Financial Literacy Skills, Financial Inclusion of Nigerians.
