A 35-year-old dismissed Inspector of Police has been paraded by the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police, John Abang, for parading himself as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

The suspect, Hassan Abubakar, a native of Otukpo in Benue State, in an interview with journalists at the State Command in Amawbia on Monday, said he delved into crime out of frustration following his dismissal from the Police Force in 2015 for ‘misfiring’.

Abubakar, who was paraded at the police headquarters alongside 85 suspected cultists, said it was his only means to fend for himself and his family after an endless wait for reinstatement.

His words: “I was demised by police as an Inspector for misfiring. I was on a special duty from R15, 42 Squadron Zamafra State, to Lagos along Lekki Peninsula, near Maroko Police Division.

“There was information that armed robbers were coming towards our direction and we stopped the vehicle but they refused and in high speed.

“By the time we knew it, they shot one of my Inspectors and I returned fire; the vehicle somersaulted three times and Police recovered three pistols in the vehicle.

“Finally, it was discovered that one of the occupants was the son of the former governor of River State Peter Odili.

“When the police dismissed me, I waited to be reinstated and since I have nothing to do and I have five children I have to be wearing police uniform to escort motors.

“Whenever I see escort, I will follow them to get money to feed my family.”

According to him, his doomsday came when he bought a Corolla car from one Godwin Abba at the cost of N800,000, not knowing that the car was stolen and had a tracker.

He added: “Since I cannot drive, I have to engage a driver. I wore police uniform so that the Customs will not disturb us since there was no duty paid on the motor.

“I used the uniform to influence security operatives to pass us. Along the line, I was arrested along Ihiala road after my explanation. Nobody wants to hear or listen to me. I know who sold the car to me and I can identify him.”

Abubakar called on the police to thoroughly investigate the case, insisting that he had never handled rifles since he was dismissed from the Police Force.

Earlier in his address, the CP denied accepting a N15 million bail fee for the bail of Awka market leader, Emeka Agumadu, a.k.a Baby Awka.

He said that the market leader was released for lack of concrete evidence, adding that investigation to the matter is still ongoing.

He said: “Baby Awka was not released on the order of the State Governor, Willie Obiano, or because he is an APGA chieftain. He was released because of lack of concrete evidence. Investigation is still being carried out on the matter, hence I cannot talk on that.

“Baby Awka did not pay N15 million for his bail. I don’t know where you got that from.”
