Two officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State have allegedly strangled their colleague, Emeka Ojei, to death for refusal to drop damaging corruption documents in his possession.

Information has it that the corruption documents implicated his unit head, who was allegedly one of the assailants.

News Express gathered that the deceased, a Senior Road Marshal Assistant, had a damaging corruption allegation against one of his assailants which he wanted to submit to the zonal headquarters of the corps in Benin, Edo State.

A member of staff of FRSC who pleaded anonymity said the prime suspect had appealed to the deceased, who was bent on sending the report to the Corps headquarters, not to go ahead with his plans, saying that it was his refusal that necessitated his murder.

The source disclosed that the senior officer was struggling for the deceased’s mobile phone with him last week Friday, May 31, when another colleague joined and held him on the neck until he died.

The source said: “Emeka is one of the officers privileged to be working on a report on a corruption case to be sent to the zonal headquarters in Benin.

“As he was about going to deliver the report, his oga called him back, insisting that he shouldn’t go, but he refused.”

News Express learnt that the case has been lodged at the Police Area Command, while the Unit Commander and his accomplice have been arrested.

Confirming the incident, the FRSC Public Relations Officer in the state, Pascal Anigbo, said the incident happened around 7pm in the office.

“I don’t have the full details of the incident now,” he said.

When contacted, the Anambra Commissioner of Police, Mustapha Dandaura, said he was not aware of the incident as he was arriving the state from a trip.

“I am just arriving back to the state. I will get back to you as soon as I get the details from the Area Commander,” he said.
