The police have arrested six ladies in Lagos at an all-women’s night party hosted to celebrate the birthday of one of them.

It was gathered that following a tip off, policemen stormed a party at Ilupeju and arrested the suspects, whose names were given as Nkolika, Ndidi, Funmilayo, Peggy and Clementina (all surnames withheld).

During the raid, some of the ladies were found in suggestive positions and confessed that they were sex partners.

Police sources said some of the ladies gave out the names of their sex partners, some of who did not attend the party. The police have therefore gone after those so named.

In one of the efforts to nab the female partners of the arrested ladies, the police led one of the suspects to the home of a woman on Alhaja Aminatu Bello Crescent, Isheri-Olofin, a Lagos suburb in Alimosho Local Government Area. The woman was not at home as the police suspect she may have fled.

One of those earlier arrested, Ndidi, who led the police to the place, admitted that she and the woman had been in a relationship for long.

Giving the name of her partner as Nkechi Alessandra, who is bisexual and married, Ndidi said their liaison has been on for years.

“We have been friends for years. We started when Nkechi was at the Imo State Polytechnics, Umuagwo, Imo State. We had different experiences, before we stuck to each other,” Ndidi said.

On the fact that her partner is bisexual, she said it was not an issue since this did not affect their relationship.

One of the policemen in the team that went to arrest Ndidi’s partner, who pleaded anonymity, said the team was detailed to arrest the suspect following information Ndidi gave.

“It is obvious she is on the run. We will be looking for her since their love affair is an offence in Nigeria,” he said.

The National Assembly in 2013 enacted a law making same sex relationship and marriages illegal. Before this law, the Criminal Code of Nigeria had made gay relations between men illegal.

Former president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, signed into law the same sex prohibition act in 2014. The law makes lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) relationship criminal offences. Punishments range from 10 to 14 years in prison.
