The last has not been heard of the power outage in Ojodu area of Lagos, and the subsequent developments after News Express broke the story.

Information has it that residents of the affected area have approached Dr Chris Okafor, the Generational Prophet of Greater Liberation City, a popular church in Ojodu.

According to our source, the residents sent an SOS to the renowned preacher during the week to help out with the purchase of a new transformer for the area.

“Pastor Okafor is a man with a tender heart, we believe strongly that he will come to our rescue by donating a new transformer to the area. The prophet of God is well known for his belief in corporate social responsibility. He has even invited leaders in the community to a meeting with him on the issue on Monday,” said our source.

Residents believe that Ikeja Electric Distribution Company has failed them hence their resolve to seek alternative help.

“Those (Ikeja Electric) people are hardened. Instead of seeing how they can restore light in the area after three weeks of power outage, they demanded for bribe of N150,000. And when the news broke out that we were collecting money from residents to meet the bribe they demanded, they denied knowledge of it and abandoned us even after collecting part of the money from us,” said the source.

Meanwhile, our source revealed that the Assistant Manager of Ikeja Electric Distribution Company in the area, Mr Adodo, on Saturday morning summoned an emergency meeting with some leaders of the affected community.

At the meeting held at the premises of a private school on Aina Street, Ojodu, Mr Adodo was purportedly displeased with the way the N150,000 bribe story had leaked to the press.

“He (Adodo) was not happy about the news report. He said he would return, on Monday, the N100,000 he had already received from the residents so as to save his job. He then said that nothing would be done by his company about the blackout except the residents paid officially the sum of N4 million which he claimed was the cost of a new transformer,” revealed the source.

Continuing the source said: “You can see that (Ikeja Electric) is not interested in the plight of the customers. We can be inside this blackout till next year if we rely on them. They don’t read meters; they bring outrageous bills yet we pay because if you don’t pay promptly, they climb the pole and disconnect you. Now we have issues with the transformer which we bought, and they are still asking us to bribe them before they can do anything about it. Our only hope now is in Pastor Okafor. We believe that God will touch his heart to take us out of this darkness.”
