Igbos in Canada have thrown their weight behind the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Mr. Peter Obi.

Speaking under the aegis of Igbo Canadian Community Association (ICCA), which is made up of all Igbo residents in Canada, the group described the duo as the only pair that can return back the glory of the nation.

ICCA called on the Nigerian electorate to stand by the team by voting en masse for Atiku and Obi.

The group stated this in its letter of endorsement for the Atiku/Obi ticket signed by its President, Ugochukwu Okoro; Chairman, Board of Trustees, Benjamin Chike Allison.

Others who signed the endorsement letter were the Public Relations Officer of the group, Ahaoma Kanu; and Secretary, Board of Trustees, Chris Chike Nsoedo.

The group observed that the country had been “battered severely by unapologetic ethnocentrism, blatant display of sectionalism and unrepentant penchant for nepotism.”

The letter reads in part: “Two economic surgeons Nigeria would need to save the life of her potentials, the group said the electorate had no other alternatives.

“With the state of the nation and the blurred horizons and increasing despair of ordinary Nigerians who are the worst affected, we expressed our trust in Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to re-design the country for the benefit of all.

“We see in you (Atiku) as a bridge-builder that will bring some measure of stability, calm and trust in governance and belief in our country which is going through a divisiveness that is as scary as it is gruesome.

“The antecedents of Atiku and Obi, including their long experience in service, leadership, entrepreneurship and statesmanship, would “assuredly lead Nigeria out from the present morass of massive unemployment, job losses, progressive demise of industries, increased brain-drain, and a failing health sector.”

ICCA said that with the duo steering the leadership boat, that Nigeria’s economy would be revitalised describing them as “economic surgeons”.
