The Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Center), a non-governmental and non-partisan human rights and development group, together with ActionAid Nigeria under the strengthening Citizens Resistance Against the Prevalence of Corruption (SCRAP-C) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have resolved to partner in order to boost the campaign against corruption, promote attitudinal change and build citizens ownership of the anti-corruption fight through resistance to corruption and other ills in the society.

This agreement was reached after a meeting following a visitation by the civil society groups to the headquarters of the ICPC in Abuja on Thursday, September 13, 2018.

The visitation team led by Mr. Olanrewaju Suraj, thanked the Ag. Chairman of the Commission for granting them the opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas on ways parties can collaborate in their common resolve to project a stronger front against corruption.

Towards this objective, Mr. Suraj, in his opening remarks, reminded the collaborating organizations of the need to strengthen stakeholders and collaborate in the fight against corruption. It is in such rapport that the agencies and indeed stakeholders can appreciate their contributions and needed synergy at campaigning against corrupt practices.

The Acting chairman of the ICPC, Dr. Usman Musa Abubakar, welcomed the initiative of HEDA and ActionAid Nigeria in collaborating with the ICPC in their mandate to fight against corrupt practices through the empowerment of citizens. He appreciated the intelligence and support of HEDA Resource Centre to the ICPC in achieving good results before now. He accepted the resolve by the team to work with ICPC in engaging the general public for enlightenment campaigns at promoting transparency, accountability and good governance.

In line with the new spirit and, also to set the ball rolling for a renewed onslaught against corruption, a number of areas of possible corporation and collaboration were identified and agreed upon among which are; the need to strengthen citizens resistance to corruption, citizen ownership of the fight against corruption, recognition and celebration of Integrity and Dignity, collaboration with zonal structures of the commission in domesticating the SCRAP-C activities and the strategic need to enhance youths capability to participate fully in the fight against corruption.
