A pressure group, National Intervention Group of Nigeria (NIGN) has called on the current Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris Kpotun, to tender his resignation letter over inability to tackle the consistent danger of killings by Fulani herdsmen across the nation, and loss of morality to continue in office.

The submission was made by Comrade Segun Akinloye, who addressed a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday on the state of the nation and security.

Speaking further, Akinloye stated that it is quite unfortunate that the Inspector General of Police has not been able to succumb to the huge temptations to continue in office after vote of no confidence passed on him by Nigerians, adding that "President Muhammadu Buhari should' with immediate effect' relieve the IGP of his current position."

He also appealed to the President to show strong will, required humility and take responsibility for these spate of killings as the father of the nation, adding that the Presidency should appeal to the wounded Nigerians and put machineries in place to stop the nationwide killings.

Lamenting further on the killings across the length and breadth of the nation, Akinloye admitted that it is extremely worrisome that the image portrayed suggests that lives of Nigerians, even in Nigeria, appears nowadays to be cheaper and more worthless than ever before as witnessed or recorded in our history.

He said: "People have been slaughtered, and more get killed in scores, while asleep in their homes, on their farms, in churches and mosques, on our highways, and all at the hands of those people who have been branded as invading bandits among other titles.

"Wanton murders reported often, the evils carried out by Fulani herdsmen, bandits, militias etc and the utter powerlessness of our police to abate this spate of killings are reasons why we are here to express our urgent and great concern that Nigeria may be heading to imminent division and eventual collapse, if urgent steps are not taken immediately by all and sundry."

Continuing: "The horrible high toll of deaths recorded apart from terrorism or traditional crimes, especially in the Central and Northern parts of Nigeria in 2018 only are enough for the overhaul of our nation's security. A total reported and recorded number of 934 Nigerians has been gruesomely murdered in many local government areas, towns and villages".

Akinloye, however, warned that the killings are adjudged nothing short of clear signs of a Nigeria that is imminently receding to total collapse and anarchy, if nothing is immediately done about her internal security.
