The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for Justice and Equity (Coalition-JE) has condemned the continued sealing off of the headquarters of the Peace Corps of Nigeria despite a court order that the Nigeria Police Force should vacate the office.

Mr Olayemi Success, Convener of Coalition-JE, who briefed newsmen on Friday, said that there would be a mass protest against the Nigeria Police on December 220 2.

Success said that Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court, Abuja had on November 9 ordered the Inspector General of Police(IGP) Ibrahim Idris to unseal the office.

He said that the coalition had stayed action in its earlier planned protest in anticipation that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris would comply with the judgment all to no avail.

Success said that though the police had appealed the judgment, it did not in any way operate as a stay of execution of a valid judgment.

The convener said that it was disheartening to note that someone who was the Chief Law Enforcement Officer turned out to disrespect court orders but ran to the court for protection.

“Therefore, we want to notify the general public that come Friday, Dec. 22, we shall mobilise sister Civil Society Organisation, women, youths and students for a mass protest to the National Assembly.

“The protest is with a view to demanding that President Muhammadu Buhari should call the IGP to order and prevent him from ridiculing the executive arm of government and Nigeria at large.

“That the IGP and the Nigeria Police Force should henceforth be precluded by courts in Nigeria from initiating and or continuing any legal proceedings before the courts.

“The fact that the IGP and the Nigeria Police Force have consistently refused to obey court judgments means they do not deserve to be heard,” he said.

He said that the coalition was in support of the campaign for disbandment of the (Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police due to alleged extortion, intimidation, reckless killings and other forms of human rights abuses. (NAN)
