A concerned Nigerian has called on the Federal Government to set aside a National Day of Prayer.

In a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr. Adai Julius, Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Vision Africa, said: “We need to set aside a day to call upon God for one strong Black Nation, by focusing on better ideas to reasoning together.

“I believe that we have already achieved it and we need to perfect it. We really need to dedicate a day to God (Allah) to thank Him for all He has done and still doing for our great country (Nigeria), in this boom era of oil that is still being discovered all over Nigeria and other mineral, resources which include human and capital resources that we have in abundance.

“I must tell you that all we are striving to restore now will be automatically fixed by God (Allah) alone, because it is written that except the Lord Build, the Builders Build in vain. I guarantee you that our leadership roles will be championed by God (Allah) and all our wrongs will be put to right. But God will take all the glory alone not man,” Adai declared.

He also disclosed that that is why the National Thanks Giving/God’s Own Day celebration must be constituted to bring out the glory of Nigeria, pointing out that “USA does mark a day for God (Allah) yearly from every third week of November and we can all see the result in the life of America as a nation with stride in different exploits they are doing.”

He said further: “Let me draw your attention to a popular verse in Quran and the Bible, which says that ‘those who wait upon the Lord never lack or getting weak but getting stronger’. I know that you all are good readers of the Quran for the Muslim faith and the Bible for the Christian faith respectively.

“I tell you, my Elders, my Leaders and my fellow Nigerians that if a day is chosen this year for the celebrations and approved to become yearly celebrations, I promise you ‘not as an Imam/Clergy but as a concerned citizen of Nigeria’ for doing this, the crisis, humiliations, agitations for self actualisation and the intolerance going on in our country today will automatically be a things of the past, and we will all see how God (Allah) will begin to move this great nation (Nigeria) to the next level by, appreciating God’s works in our country.”

Adai also called for the promotion of a national culture by dedicating a particular mode of dressing, food, kind of meat to eat on that day, as well as a way of celebrating the day and how it should be carried out every year.

He suggested the invitation of leaders from various nations, friends, associates and those in the business sectors from across the world. This, according to Adai, will prove to the world, how peaceful Nigerians can live together.

“A special court initiative should also be set up for the purpose of this celebration for those who are truly ready to confess and ready to let go of their wrong doings and government should be ready to pardon them, reform them and embrace them back into the society again.

“Any day set aside can also be used as a period for reconciliations among our Leaders, Region to Region, State to State, and Community to Community, individual to individual, group to group and Family to Family.”

Adai also canvassed the view that it will be a day that Nigerians will all go to their various worship Centres to celebrate God (Allah) and ask for His mercies, more blessings, knowledge and wisdom; and also see it as a day that we will be taken seriously for national issues and discuss.

His words: “The few states in Nigeria that have already embarked on this yearly Thanks Giving to God can testify to the hand of God in their various states, I believe we all know these states, that are celebrating it yearly and how peaceful and successful they are today.

“Note that corporate bodies like banks, business association, manufacturing companies, communication sectors, oil, mining, agricultural sectors, traders, hotels and tourism and many other sectors will not be left out in this national practice.”
