Those who take pleasure in watching pornographic films have been told to stop forthwith as the habit is sure to attract God’s wrath.

A talk delivered yesterday on day one of the second in the series of the 2012 “Safeguard Your Heart!” District Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses at Ota, Ogun State, South-West Nigeria, classified pornographic movies among “bad films.”

“To make Jehovah God happy, we should not watch bad movies,” said Akinola Moses in the talk “Prepare Your Heart for … Temptation.” He condemned the prevalence of pornography, noting that television and the internet have served to make pornographic movies readily available.

Quoting copiously from the Bible, Akinola established that pornography is an ungodly act as it inflames sexual passions and encourages immorality contrary to the Bible’s command to deaden one’s sexual appetite, exercise self control and shun immorality.

Akinola, whose talk was based on Psalm 78:8, warned that those who persist in viewing pornography run the risk of not entering God’s Kingdom and getting everlasting life. His talk also touched on sundry sins which Christians must avoid if they are to have God’s favour.

Unlike last week’s Ota 1 Convention held in English, Ota 2 is holding in Yoruba, one of the indigenous Nigerian languages.

One of the highlights of yesterday’s session was the presence of a visiting speaker from the Nigeria Branch Office of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Edo State. The audience of over 3,500 was thrown into a frenzy when the speaker, a white man named Taylor Lowell Ivor, repeatedly saluted them in Yoruba Language before delivering his talk through an interpreter.

News Express reports that apart from Yoruba, conventions are being held in many other Nigerian languages as Jehovah’s Witnesses have a tradition of promoting the use of indigenous languages. Starting from last week to December 7, 2012, eleven conventions are to be held each weekend at the Ota Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Throughout Nigeria there will be 250 conventions (many of them in indigenous languages) in 32 cities.

The convention series described as a “heart examination” begins at 9:20 a.m. all three days. “Admission is free as conventions of Jehovah’s Witnesses are supported entirely by voluntary donations,” said a statement by the Convention News Department made available to News Express.
