The Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC) has hailed the prompt action of the Ministry of Education in respect to its (CSNAC) demand for the interdiction of the former Vice Chancellors of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA); Mr. Gregory Daramola, and Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Mr. Olushola Oyewole, on the strength of the ongoing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In an acknowledgment letter from CSNAC, signed by its chairman, Mr. Olanrewaju Suraju, the coalition commended the Ministry’s action in the subsequent interdiction of the suspects and its commitment to ensuring sanity in the management of the country’s education sector

The letter reads: “We write to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated the 31st day of March, 2017 and the prompt action taken by the ministry with respect to our demand for the interdiction of the former Vice Chancellors of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA); Mr. Gregory Daramola and Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Mr. Olushola Oyewole, on the strength of the ongoing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“We hereby wish to commend the Ministry’s action in the subsequent interdiction of the suspects and its commitment to ensuring sanity in the management of the country’s education sector and its dedication to the present administration’s anti-corruption agenda.”

Similarly, the coalition also used the opportunity to urge the Ministry to take necessary action on another letter it forwarded to it in 2015.

“We also wish to use this opportunity to remind you of our petition dated the 10th day of November, 2015 with respect to the appointment of Prof. Enefiok Essien as Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO).

“The said Vice Chancellor having been indicted in 2005 for forgery and sexual assault by the Court of Appeal, he is legally and morally disqualified from occupying the noble office of a vice chancellor in a citadel of learning. We request that the said issue be investigated by your ministry and appropriate actions taken with respect to same.”
