The Defence Headquarters has refuted a newspaper report, yesterday, with the headline: ‘Militants Blow up Pipeline After Osinbajo Visit’, in Ughelli, Delta State, apparently in defiance of the efforts of the Federal Government at addressing issues in that region.

Acting Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar, in a statement issued in Abuja yesterday evening, described the report as not only a ruse but a complete imagination of its author as the said incident was a bush burning which was immediately put under control.

Abubakar said: “I am to once again appeal to media practitioners who are also stakeholders in nation building to properly verify issues of defence and security matter especially as it affects the economic security of our nation before going to press to avoid causing unnecessary apprehension among the populace.

“There is the need for all people of goodwill to work in synergy with security agencies towards the betterment of the region in particular and the country in general.”
