The Director-General of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre, Rinsola Abiola, a daughter of the late Chief MKO Abiola, winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, has said President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 will be decisive, emphatic and resounding.

She said the administration of Tinubu could arguably be described as the most youth-friendly government in the country’s history, noting that the current government has not only encouraged youth inclusion in governance but is also taking steps to safeguard the future of young people and the nation.

Abiola, who is also the Ogun State Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, a socio-political group founded to mobilise support for President Tinubu’s second-term bid, said she was pleased that the President was leaving no stone unturned in his efforts to move the country forward, just as her late father had envisioned during his 1993 presidential ambition.

The DG spoke on Friday in Abeokuta during the inauguration of the executives of the City Boy Movement and the distribution of food palliatives to over 5,000 households across the 236 wards in Ogun State.

Speaking with journalists, Abiola said Nigerian youths must rally support for Tinubu’s re-election, stressing that his commitment to youth empowerment, given that young people constitute about 70 per cent of the country’s population, has been unparalleled.

She said, “There are countless young people working in different capacities under the government of President Tinubu, and we have seen similar developments at the state level as well.

“The President has also rolled out several programmes, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, among others, to strengthen the future of the youth. Mr President believes strongly in the future of young people in this country.

“So everything being done in terms of moving the country forward, revamping the healthcare sector and re-engineering the economy is aimed at safeguarding the future of the youth. That is why we say this government is the most youth-friendly.

“The youth, therefore, have every reason to rise up as a movement and ensure the success of the President’s second-term bid. It is already becoming clearer that President Tinubu’s second-term victory will be decisive, resounding and emphatic because the opposition is nowhere to be found.”

Abiola added that although her father’s dream of leading the country was cut short, she was satisfied that President Tinubu, whom she described as one of the loyal allies of her late father, was working to restore hope in the nation.

She said, “If you look at Hope ’93, which was the slogan for my late father’s presidential campaign, and President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, there is a clear connection.

“It feels good that the President, who was one of the loyalists in that struggle, has continued in the same spirit to make the nation better.

“We are glad that his first term in office has brought hope for greater things to come, and we believe his second term, which will come with a decisive victory, will further move the country to greater heights.

“President Tinubu will definitely carry the torch to the finishing line by May 2031, by the grace of God.”

Abiola explained that the food palliatives provided by the City Boy Movement were distributed to over 5,000 residents across the state in the spirit of the ongoing Christian Lenten season and the Ramadan fasting period.

She said the initiative was driven by compassion and the desire to support one another, adding that this reflects the core values of the City Boy Movement, which is committeed to youth empowerment and preparing young people for a brighter future.

Abiola also commended the son of the President, Seyi Tinubu, who is the patron of the movement, as well as Dr Sulaiman Adegboyega, the director of the movement in the state, saying their support had greatly’assisted the group in empowering young people.

Also speaking at the event, the Deputy Coordinator of the movement, Barrister Abeeb White, said the purpose of the gathering and the distribution of palliatives was to bring together both Muslims and Christians and demonstrate that the movement cares about the welfare of all Nigerians.

White urged Nigerian youths to show greater interest in the country’s political process, especially in view of what he described as the unprecedented support of Tinubu for youth development.

He said, “Nigerian youths must shun apathy when it comes to political participation. They must come out to vote and be actively involved in our democratic process.

“It is clear to everyone that President Tinubu is working diligently to support the youth and create a better future for all. It is therefore appropriate for the youth to come out in their millions to vote for President Tinubu for another term in 2027 so that the ongoing economic reforms can be consolidated.”

The Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Youth Affairs, Olamide Lawal, also urged youths to support President Tinubu’s second-term ambition, stating that the All Progressives Congress at both the state and federal levels had demonstrated commitment to empowering young people and giving them opportunities to thrive.
